We all like feeling secure by having our necessities right at our side. Now more than ever, there are plenty of necessities to keep track of. There are ways to keep everything you need on your person without a huge purse hanging over your shoulder.
Messenger or Cross Body Bags
If you tend to have a plethora of things to carry, this is an excellent option. Messenger bags look more like backpacks than purses, and they have a ton of room. Most are large enough to fit a tablet or e-reader while having smaller pockets for things like keys. The great thing about them is that they allow both hands to be free at once. This will allow you to more easily shop, handle children, and carry things while you are out. These bags are also available in a variety of styles. There are sporty bags for tomboys, and fashionably cute bags for a more feminine style. If you have a bunch of things you like to keep with you, this is bag is a great option.
Organizer Wallets
Sometimes all you need are your credit cards, identification, and cash. For those who do not have a ton of extras, an organizer or large wallet will work perfectly. These have plenty of compartments that will securely fit all your important cards and cash. Many will also have a ring on the end for keys. Generally, these open up accordion style, with a zipper or snap keeping the main opening closed. They can be kept in a pocket, briefcase, in the car, or carried.
Money Belts and Pouches
For those who travel, money belts and pouches are a secure and discreet way to carry identification, credit cards, and cash. Money belts are similar to fanny packs, except they are slim and are meant to be worn under clothing. This keeps your valuables close to you and away from shady characters who may try snatching a purse. Pouches are similar, they are slim and worn close to the body. Instead of being kept around the waist, these are worn around the neck by a strap. This makes it easy for them to be tucked under clothing. Both options allow for both hands to be free.
Hip Purse
Another new option is the hip purse. Just like it sounds, this purse has clips that attach to your belt loops. This secures the purse to your hips, keeping both hands free and the weight off of your shoulders. It comes with a strap, so it can easily be converted into a regular style shoulder purse. These are slim versions of regular purse designs, so they are not awkward or bulky. While you cannot load up these purses with tons of things, they offer enough room for the basics such as cell phones, keys, and your wallet.
Arm Band Pouch
Athletes and runners certainly do not want to be lugging a purse around while they are training. You may also have just a couple of things you want with you, but that won't fit in your pockets. An arm band pouch is a great option for these situations. These little pouches fasten to your upper arm with Velcro and have a small pouch for a cell phone. Most will also have a zippered compartment for a key or two and some cash. These will not hamper your movement at all, and they are able to securely hold what you need for a walk, run, trip to the gym, or even a quick stop at the grocery store.
A purse is not necessarily the best thing for you. Many can cause back or neck problems and sore muscles. Other times the situation you are in may not call for a purse, or wearing one simply is not convenient. Consider these alternatives if you are sick of lugging around a purse.
